MBBS management quota in Karnataka: fees and process

Management quota is the everyday name for the higher-fee seats in Karnataka's private medical colleges. In KEA's seat list they are called Others and NRI seats, and KEA allots them in order of NEET rank, through the same counselling as every other seat. You need a valid NEET-UG score, and fees are paid directly to KEA or the college, never through an agent.

Who can apply for management quota

Any student who has qualified NEET-UG can register for KEA counselling. Students from Karnataka and from other states can both compete for seats that KEA opens to them. Students from other states get no reservation, and need at least the general-category NEET qualifying percentile. NRI seats also need NRI or NRI-ward documents.

The exact seats open to each student depend on the eligibility clause they qualify under. That is the first thing we check on your call.

How management quota fits with other seats

Every private medical college in Karnataka splits its seats into four types. All four are allotted by KEA on NEET rank.

Seat type (KEA name) Who can take it Tuition per year, 2025–26
Government quota (G) Karnataka-eligible students, with reservation ₹1.54–1.82 lakh
Private quota (P) Part for Karnataka students, part open on all-India merit ₹12 lakh at most colleges, up to ₹25 lakh
Management quota (Others, Q) Seats KEA opens to Karnataka and other-state students ₹25.1–45 lakh, set per college
NRI quota (N) NRI and NRI-ward candidates with documents Same as Others at each college, in rupees

Deemed universities are different. Their seats, including NRI seats, are counselled by MCC, not KEA, and fees are set by each university.

A higher fee is not a shortcut. It only changes which seats you can compete for.

What management quota costs

In KEA's 2026–27 fee list, management (Q) tuition in private colleges runs from ₹25.1 lakh to ₹45 lakh a year, depending on the college. Fourteen government medical colleges also have management seats, at ₹25,09,350 a year. The Government Order of July 2025 caps management and NRI fees at ₹45 lakh. The fee includes university registration. Hostel, mess and deposits are extra.

The cheapest private options are Alva's (₹25.12 lakh) and KVG Sullia (₹26.34 lakh); the most expensive are Ramaiah, Sapthagiri and Sri Madhusudan Sai (₹45 lakh each). See MBBS fees in Karnataka

For 2026–27, Karnataka's private medical colleges decided not to seek a fee hike. KEA's September 2026 list still shows small changes at some colleges, so we confirm each college's current fee in writing before you enter it as an option.

How KEA allots management quota seats

  1. Qualify NEET-UG. Your rank decides everything that follows.
  2. Register with KEA in the notified window and pay the registration fee.
  3. Verify your documents. Some claims, including NRI, need a visit to the KEA office in Malleswaram.
  4. Enter your options. List colleges and seat types in order of preference. This order matters more than anything else you do.
  5. Allotment, round by round: Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 (mop-up), then a stray round if seats remain.
  6. Choose what to do with your seat. Choice 1: accept and stop. Choice 2: accept and try for a better seat next round. Choice 3: decline and try next round. Choice 4: decline and leave counselling.
  7. Pay the fee through the KEA portal and download your admission order.
  8. Report to the college with original documents before the deadline.

Miss a window and no amount of money reopens it. That is why we track every date for you.

Four things you may hear, and the truth

  • "Management quota means you don't need NEET." False. NEET is compulsory for every MBBS seat in India, under the National Medical Commission Act, 2019.
  • "Pay a deposit now to block a seat." No legitimate route blocks a seat before KEA allots it. Fees go through the KEA portal after allotment.
  • "We guarantee you a seat." KEA allots seats by rank. Nobody can guarantee one.
  • "There's a donation on top of the fee." Any payment above the prescribed fee is a capitation fee, which Karnataka has banned since 1984. Walk away.
