Counselling rounds in Karnataka, explained
Seats are lost to missed windows more often than to low ranks. This page explains how KEA, MCC and COMEDK rounds work and what you need to do in each one. For the current round and dates, enquire with us: we check the latest official notice for you.
Where do the rounds stand today?
Dates move with every KEA, MCC and COMEDK notice. To know the current round, the next deadline and what you need to do before it, enquire with us. We check the latest official notice for you, the same day.
How counselling rounds work
KEA runs medical counselling in Round 1, Round 2 and Round 3 (mop-up), followed by a stray round if seats are still vacant. MCC runs Rounds 1, 2 and 3 and a stray vacancy round. Each round has its own windows for option entry, results, fee payment and reporting.
Your four choices after a KEA allotment
| Choice | What it means |
|---|---|
| Choice 1 | Accept the seat and leave counselling. Pay the fee and report. |
| Choice 2 | Accept the seat, and stay in for a better one next round. |
| Choice 3 | Decline the seat, and stay in for the next round. |
| Choice 4 | Decline the seat and leave counselling. |
The right choice depends on how close you are to a better seat, and on the fees involved. We talk it through with you before every choice window closes.
What to do in each round
- Register in the notified window, or check your registration is complete.
- Verify documents, in person where your claim needs it. See the documents checklist
- Enter or revise your options before the deadline.
- Check the result and make your choice.
- Pay the fee through the KEA portal if you accept.
- Report to the college with originals before the deadline.
KEA or MCC?
KEA counsels Karnataka's state seats, including every seat in private colleges: government, private, management and NRI. MCC counsels 15% All India Quota seats in government colleges and all deemed university seats. Many families register for both, and plan when to accept a seat in one so as not to lose a better seat in the other.
